World of Warcraft Forever launches worldwide on November 4 at 3:00 PM PST, with four rulesets available at launch and Hardcore planned for later. Your local date may be November 5, so check the regional schedule before arranging your first session. You can explore WoW Forever Gold options while planning your adventure, but your ruleset and launch time come first.

1 How Launch Times and Rulesets Work

Everyone starts at the same global moment, but local clocks show different times. Your ruleset determines the player ecosystem and its approach to player combat and role-play.

On your first login, you’ll choose an experience preset before selecting a ruleset and creating a character with a two-part name. Coordinate the ruleset with friends before you reach that screen.

Normal, PvP, RP, and RP-PvP are launch choices. Hardcore isn’t available on November 4, so permanent-death players need to wait or begin elsewhere.

2 Choose a Starting Setup

For a straightforward first session, Enhanced and Normal are sensible starting choices if you want modern interface options and control over player combat.

Preset and Ruleset Choices

Choice Suitable For
Enhanced preset Players who want quest indicators and a centralized layout
Classic preset Players who prefer a traditional presentation
Normal ruleset Adventuring with player combat at your discretion
PvP ruleset Players willing to face frequent opposing faction attacks
RP ruleset Role-players who accept naming and behavior rules
RP-PvP ruleset Role-players who also accept frequent PvP risk

Enhanced is the recommended starting point when you’re unsure about presentation. Your group’s chosen ruleset takes priority over that suggestion if you intend to play together.

The preset sets initial options such as models, quest indicators, and interface layout. You can change individual settings later through Game Menu and Options, even though the initial preset screen won’t return.

Normal reduces unwanted player combat, while PvP offers greater exposure to the opposing faction. RP options add conduct and naming requirements, so choose them for the role-play commitment as well as their combat rules.

3 Key Choices Before Character Creation

Your launch plan has four parts: the local start time, shared ruleset, character name, and starting character. Each answers a different question, so settling one won’t resolve the others.

Decision Recommended Action Purpose
Launch time Check your local date and time Arrive for the global opening
Ruleset Agree with your group Keep your players in one ecosystem
Character name Prepare several two-part names Have alternatives ready
Starting character Choose a race and class pairing Plan your opening route

These decisions also affect later group plans. In particular, guild members on different rulesets can’t raid together, even if they’ve reached the required level.

Regional Opening Times

The shared opening is 3:00 PM PST and 11:00 PM UTC on November 4. It’s also listed as 8:00 PM in Brazil and 11:00 PM in the UK.

Central Europe reaches the opening at midnight on November 5. Taiwan opens at 7:00 AM, Korea at 8:00 AM, and eastern Australia at 10:00 AM that day.

Ruleset and Group Plans

Normal gives you discretion over player combat, while PvP keeps opposing faction attacks a near-constant possibility. The two RP choices add role-play naming and behavior rules.

RP-PvP combines those requirements with PvP exposure. A group that wants uninterrupted monster encounters may prefer Normal, while a group seeking regular player conflict may accept the PvP tradeoff.

Two-Part Character Names

Each character uses two name parts, and the complete combination has to be unique within your region. A familiar first name may work when paired with a different second part.

Prepare alternatives before launch rather than relying on a single combination. On an RP ruleset, your chosen name also needs to follow its naming conventions.

Skyborne and Other Characters

Skyborne characters begin on Zephras Isle for levels 1 through 12 and choose a faction during creation. Horde Windshapers can become Shaman, while Alliance High-Order Skyborne can become Mages.

Other new pairings include Orc Mages, Troll Warlocks, Undead Paladins, Human Hunters, Gnome Priests, and Dwarf Shamans. Choose the pairing you want before launch; the Skyborne faction choice also affects which of its listed classes you can pick.

4 Set Up Your First Session

The opening screens have a fixed order, so a little preparation lets you make each choice without holding up your group. Start with the clock, then settle your shared plans.

Use this sequence before and during your first login.

● Check your regional opening time and date, especially if the global launch falls after midnight where you live.

● Agree on one ruleset with friends or your guild before anyone creates a character.

● Select Classic or Enhanced at first login, knowing that individual presentation options can be adjusted later.

● Enter an available two-part name and create your chosen character, using a prepared alternative if your first combination is taken.

Once your group has confirmed its choices, begin your chosen starting route. Pause before character creation if your group hasn’t agreed on a ruleset.

5 Manage Launch Risks

The biggest planning risk is treating a presentation choice and a ruleset choice as equally flexible. Preset settings can be adjusted later, but a split group can’t raid together across rulesets.

Protect your group plan and your first-session time with these checks.

● Confirm the date as well as the hour, since several listed regions begin on November 5.

● Check the ruleset name with every intended group member before committing to character creation.

● Keep alternate full names ready, since uniqueness applies to the entire combination within your region.

● Leave room in your leveling plan for the Onyxia’s Lair entry quest chain if you want to join early runs.

A conservative plan is to choose Normal with your group and adjust presentation options afterward. That limits unwanted player combat, but it won’t provide the frequent opposing faction danger of PvP.

6 Strengths and Weaknesses of the Plan

Strengths Weaknesses
One shared global opening Local opening dates differ
Adjustable preset settings Preset screen appears only once
Four launch rulesets Hardcore arrives later
More two-part name combinations Full names must be regionally unique

This plan suits groups that want to start together and players who prefer to decide their combat exposure in advance. It won’t satisfy someone who wants Hardcore available on launch day.

Alternate names and a shared ruleset reduce avoidable delays, but they can’t make a taken full name available or bring the planned Hardcore option forward.

7 Check Your Setup and Next Steps

After entering the game, check two things: whether your quest indicators match your preference and whether your friends chose the same ruleset. The first is a presentation check; the second determines your shared player ecosystem.

If the interface feels unfamiliar, inspect the preset settings in Options and change one variable at a time. If you can’t join your intended group, check the ruleset choice before changing interface options, since presentation won’t resolve a group split.

Next, agree on your leveling and raid plans, then review options to buy WoW Forever Gold if that suits your plans. The first raids open on December 9 for level 60 characters, and first-time entry to Onyxia’s Lair requires an additional quest step.
